Al Stravinsky

It's over

It's over
Inspired by a Paul Simon song, this story of love, deceit and forgiveness was written and recorded in 4 days at the end of May 2005. It's a waltzy thing, about a failed affair and the aftermath. I recorded several acoustic guitars, and then sequenced Hammond organ, piano, tremoloed Rhodes, double bass; then added a vocal and lots of harmonies over a 4 bar Brian Delaney brushed drum-loop. Lyrics: (Al Stravinsky) Verse 1 The silence cries and silent tears well over (it's over), I let you into every cell, never again my love. Too scared to choose you took the route of lovers, world over - The path of lies, now time has come to tell the story true. Verse 2 You left the feast to chase the beast through clover (it's over), To seek the thrill, pursue the kill, the way that hunters do. If anger bled my eyes to red the hunters would be my prey, But no victory hides there for me, only pain anew. Middle 8 You turn to me, I dry your eyes, Every time he takes you apart I fix you up, Every time it breaks my heart. Verse 3 Your brave bright future turned to dust, it's over (it's over) The plans were all inside your head, and never in his heart. To break his word or family asunder? No wonder He took the path away from you, back to the life he knew. Coda So here we stand you promise me it's over, Take my hand, let's see if we can find another way.

One of the best sounds I know and enjoy is hammond organ, and in this song it is applied exquisitly. I cant really comment on the fact that it was inspired by a Paul Simon song but I can definlely hear that it was was written and inspired by a musican called Al Stravinksy. My colection (how do you spell that?) of your songs is always at its peak, then you come out with another one to add. Yet again my tour of favourite vox site does not disapoint me. Thankyou for such a class song....and the feeling that goes with it Al.

I'm in love with that Middle 8 part Al

I hear the Paul Simon after about half a bar ;-)

Nice keys, and very unusual and catchy bass instrument. Is that an acoustic bass? Great ending. That's a good song, well done mate.

MM

It's a double bass sample. I play double bass, but not this well. I can hear what it ought to do though, and try to replicate that. Thanks for the kind words! Al

It works very well. Good job.
