Oxfam Hong Kong staff members are in Sichuan and Gansu Provinces, working closely with the province-level Civil Affairs Department as well as the Poverty Alleviation Office. So far, the agency has committed HK$12 million (about US$1.5million) for the massive relief and rehabilitation effort.

Why subsidise big business?

There's a thin and tenuous line between 'charity' and 'subsidising the fat cats'. Think some bloke once called it 'bourgeois socialism' or something like that. On second thoughts, if we don't subsidise them via 'charity', we can't have those fantastic imitation products China is undermining western companies with right. So do your bit mate.

I wonder if the earthquakes have anything to do with the Three Gorges Dam. There was some speculation that the dam could screw with the tectonics in the region, and might cause earthquakes.
